Damage Deposit & Damage Responsibility Policy

Version 2026-10-13 · Effective October 13, 2026

How the refundable deposit works and what you are responsible for if something is damaged.

The refundable deposit

A refundable damage deposit may be authorized or collected for your booking. It is shown separately on your estimate and checkout summary and is not part of the amount charged for the booking itself.

Where the deposit is an authorization rather than a charge, no funds move unless a claim is made.

Release

The deposit is a hold, not a charge, and is released after inspection — typically within 48–72 hours of checkout. If a claim is being assessed we will tell you before that window closes.

What you are responsible for

Damage to the house, its contents, landscaping or neighboring property caused during your booking by you, your guests, your crew or your vendors.

Missing items, deep or specialist cleaning beyond the standard scope, waste removal, smoke or odor remediation, and repairs required before the next booking.

Losses caused to Haus Format where damage forces us to cancel a subsequent booking at the same house.

Claims

Your responsibility is not capped at the deposit amount. Where the cost of damage exceeds the deposit we will document the loss and invoice the difference.

We will provide a written description of any claim, with supporting photographs or invoices, and give you a reasonable opportunity to respond before charging.

Reporting

Tell us as soon as something is damaged, at support@hausformat.co or through on-site staff. Reporting promptly and honestly is always treated more favorably than damage discovered afterwards.

Draft policy, pending final review by counsel. Questions: support@hausformat.co.
